Emily Dykstra-Mixed Media Artist
Emily Dykstra is a mixed media artist from Northwest Indiana and currently resides in central Arizona. Growing up, she never desired to conform to the status quo and always strived to be unique.
Emily began her journey as an artist at a very young age. Her mother said she knew she would become an artist when she drew a cow in the second grade and stapled a rubber glove on it for udders.
When she was in high school, she began using art as a way to cope with emotional challenges in her day-to-day life. To this day, her artwork taps into the darker corners of one's mind and expresses the inner struggles of one's subconscious. Her subject matter is an observation of society and the relationship people have with each other. She also is highly sought after for adorable pet portraits. Two styles that are complete opposites.
Emily uses a variety of media including, but not limited to:
Pen and Ink
Acrylic Paint
Wood
Cut Paper
Colored Pencil
Metal
Ceramics
Emily received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in May of 2017 with a concentration in Drawing and a minor in Art History. Her artwork has been published in literary magazines, such at Ball State University's Broken Plate and Digital Literature Review for 2017.
During her career so far, Emily served as a judge for Arizona's Congressional Arts Competition, District Four, for the years 2019, 2021 and 2022. Wickenburg, Arizona's Chamber of Commerce awarded her the Ambassador of the Year for 2020 and she continues to impact her community by spreading awareness of art and history in the Southwest.
Emily is open to commission inquires and is available on Instagram @fannypack_viking and on Facebook at Fine Art by Emily Dykstra.
